In 2025, space flights in a special capsule will be available
No longer a fantasy, space travel is becoming a reality for many people. A prime example is EOS-X Space, a startup that plans to offer stratospheric flights as early as 2025. Unlike similar companies, the Spanish company will use a unique vehicle – a capsule with an inflatable balloon.
The capsule will carry seven passengers and be lifted by a giant balloon. Another space startup is developing a similar idea – the American Space Perspective. In this case, the company offers eight passengers the chance to travel in a capsule. The flight lasts 6 hours, during which the transport rises to an altitude of over 30 kilometres. Such a distance allows you to see the universe and the contours of the planet. The capsule flies thanks to a space balloon filled with hydrogen. During the descent, the gas is gradually released.
Characteristics of the EOS-X Space development
As for the Spanish aircraft, it has every chance of competing seriously with the American one. The developer announces the following characteristics of the EOS-X capsule model:
- module made of pressed carbon fibre;
- capacity – 7 people plus pilot;
- the capsule will be able to carry passengers to an altitude of 40 kilometres;
- a helium-filled balloon lifts the module.
The balloon rises to a given altitude and remains there for another 2 hours. As a result, passengers can enjoy a beautiful view from above. The descent to the ground takes about 1 hour.
Everything you need for a comfortable flight is in the capsule. Inside are comfortable, wide seats, large windows, and a system for adjusting the light levels. You can also enjoy a drink at the bar and take in the beauty of the surroundings. The cost of the flight is between 150 and 200 thousand euros. The price is relatively high, especially compared to the competition. Space Perspective, for example, offers the service for USD 125 thousand.
Additional services
In addition to the flight itself, the Spanish startup is offering other services. It is building a space-themed campus and hotel near Seville. Here you can stay for a few days and have fun. The campus has a special area equipped to simulate weightlessness. Here, visitors can experience a state similar to that of astronauts in space. It is also possible to try out a VR simulation of various tests in space. Afterwards, a helicopter will take guests to the launch pad for the capsule journey. EOS-X Space plans to build a similar base in Abu Dhabi.
The module is currently undergoing all the necessary tests. The developers are paying particular attention to the safety of the passengers and reducing their discomfort when travelling at altitude. So far, the capsule has demonstrated excellent reliability results.
