Computer market shows positive dynamics in EMEA
IDC has analyzed the EMEA computer market, which includes Europe, Africa and the Middle East. According to the study, in 2021 the volume of supply of computer equipment increased by 13.2%. A total of 95.8 million desktops, workstations and laptops were recorded in the region.
Analysts noted that since the second half of last year in Western Europe there was a high growth in the supply of equipment, and such dynamics was observed for the first time since the beginning of 2020. First of all the high demand is caused by the interest from the commercial and state organizations. After the pandemic and remote work, employees began to return gradually to the offices, and it was necessary to provide them with technology. And experts predict that this trend will continue in the current period, as investment in digital projects is growing. Last quarter, the consumer sector increased by 10.3%, it was the 6th period of positive double-digit dynamics. As for the commercial area, here computer hardware shipments grew by 24.8%.
According to forecasts, in the Central and Eastern Europe region the volume of deliveries should increase by 8.9% this year, the main role in this process will be played by customers from the corporate sector.
However, despite these positive trends, EMEA will experience negative growth averaging -1.8% per annum from 2021 to 2025.
The leader in the computer market is the Chinese corporation Lenovo, its share is 25.8%. In second place is American manufacturer HP, it occupies 24.3% of the market in the region. The third position is occupied by Dell with 13.5% share, followed by Acer and ASUS with 9.6% and 7.4% respectively.
The global demand for computer equipment demonstrates a stable increase. The surge of interest in PCs and laptops was observed during the pandemic, when people switched to a remote format of work and study. At the same time there was a deficit of components, primarily semiconductors, which limited the development of the market.
Analysts predict that the positive trend of growth will continue in 2022, one of the factors of its increase will be the release of the updated operating system Windows 11.
As in EMEA, Lenovo is the leader in the global computer hardware market, accounting for about 25% of total shipments. Only 2% behind it is HP Corporation. Despite the failure in the direction of Chromebooks, the company managed to hold its positions due to high demand among corporate customers. This sector is also the most important for Dell, because it is corporate customers that helped the company to hold third place and take a market share of 20%.
