The new AphyOS operating system will be available by subscription
The startup Apostrophy AG from Switzerland presented its development, which could become a worthy competitor for the market leaders. It is about the new AphyOS operating system, which has a higher level of security than Android and iOS.
It should be noted that the battle for primacy in the market of mobile devices has long lost such giants as Microsoft, Firefox Mozilla, and Samsung. At various times they released their own operating systems, but could not become full competitors for Google and Apple. Experts say that AphyOS has a good chance to enter this market.
Apostrophy attracted a team of developers from the KaiOS company to develop the product. The Swiss startup plans to introduce a new model of interaction with the consumer – a subscription fee will be charged for the use of AphyOS. Not the owners of mobile devices themselves, but their manufacturers will be the payers.
The head of Apostrophy is Petter Neby, who owns Punkt. The latter has been making cell phones since 2008, which are designed for communication rather than entertainment, as is the case with smartphones. The post of CEO is held by Steve Cistulli, who has been active in the mobile sector for 25 years.
It should be noted that the startup has already established itself in the global market as a promising project. Not so long ago, the company raised $11 million, and several large funds were among the investors.
AphyOS is based on one of the Android versions – Graphene. The essence of the system is the separation of applications, which does not allow tracking the behavior of users. Apple implemented a similar algorithm for iOS, thus significantly worsening the affairs of Meta Corporation. On AphyOS it is possible to use Android applications, but there will be no standard Google services and Play Market application store on the devices.
So far, it is difficult to say how much the solution will be in demand on the market. However, the technology itself and the high level of privacy have a high potential for development.
According to representatives of Apostrophy, several European mobile device manufacturers have already signed a contract to use AphyOS. Smartphones to be released in 2023 will be equipped with the operating system from the Swiss startup. Users should understand that the subscription fee is primarily a protection against intrusive advertising and a guarantee that their personal information will not be used by third parties.
Apostrophy executives have long been critical of Google’s policies regarding the protection and processing of user data. And the new operating system is yet another way to improve security for mobile device owners.
